What Can I Do That Will Make A Difference?

Zoning   As you know, the SEQR Scoping Process is well underway, and HRVR's proposed zoning change amendment has yet to be accepted or rejected by the Town of Rosendale. Recognizing a thorny issue when they see one, the Town Board chose to deal with other matters first. During that time, they have recieved legal and technical opinions on the proposed change. According to our sources, the Town Board, Planning Board and Environmental Commission have all come to the conclusion that the HRVR zoning proposal is "spot zoning" in disguise. Still, there is no action planned as far as we know. The Rosendale decision-makers need - and want - to know how you feel about the scale of the proposed development and the zoning change that would make it possible. Community views are important to our local officials - if you feel that the zoning issue should be high on the Town's agenda, tell them so. We hope they will listen.

Looking Ahead   Secondly, Save the Lakes is the only grass-roots, non-profit organization ready and willing to hire expert scientific and legal help to balance the position and ambitions of the developer and the investors. When the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is issued upon its completion - this is the document that will answer to the concerns of the Final Scoping Document - Save the Lakes will need funds on hand to provide this important balance. If you can afford a donation of any amount it will be put to this use. Even $20 will make a difference.

PRESERVE AND PROTECT ENVIRONMENTAL INTEGRITY AND COMMUNITY CHARACTER

We at Save the Lakes firmly believe that this gated community/real-estate "resort" plan is an example of inappropriate overdevelopment. Community character, the health of the local economy at the grassroots level, water resources and the environment will all be adversely impacted.

PLEASE, CONTRIBUTE WHAT YOU CAN
When the Draft Environmental Impact Statement is completed, expert studies and legal advice will be called upon.
This is the kind of project that has torn apart rural communities across the country.

Short-term gain for the few must be weighed against the long-term negative impacts that everyone will experience.

Please contribute. Help our locale from being dominated by profit-driven outside investment interests. We are fighting to keep our natural resources for the community to nurture and enjoy.
